The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is holding the 2nd Interfaith symposium in Canmore as part of the World Religions Conference series. Representatives from Buddhism, Aboriginal Spirituality, Christianity and Islam will present their respective point of view on this occasion.

TINA FOX Representing Aboriginal Spirituality
Tina got her earlier education at the Morley Indian Residential school before being certified as a nursing aide in 1960. She earned her bachelor of First Nations and Aboriginal Counseling degree at the age of 62. Tina served as an elected band councilor for 14 years. In 1998, she was awarded the Life Time Achievement award by the YWCA.
DR. PLINY HAYES Representing Buddhism
Dr. Hayes did his B.Sc. in Zoology from University of Alberta with honours in1976. He later got his Ph.D. in Genetics from the same university in 1982. He did 4 years post-doctoral research on the
developmental genetics of Drosophila melanogaster at Kansas State Univ. and U of A. He worked for 5 years as a research associate in the Dept. of Biochemistry, Queen's Univ. He is teaching at RDC since Fall of '89.
Dr. Hays was Raised in the Episcopal Church; he has been Buddhist for 30 years. Dr.Hayes Spent 8 months studying Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan language in a monastery outside Katmandu.
PAUL VERHOEF Representing Christianity
A husband, father, pastor, chaplain, mentor, friend, and follower of Jesus living in the city of Calgary. He graduated with a B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 1997, a M. Divinity in 2002, and a M.
Theology in 2004. In 2004, he moved with his family to Calgary to serve at the University of Calgary as the Christian Reformed Chaplain. As a chaplain, he has led a few communities in reflection
around science and faith, especially around a Christian approach to issues of creation and evolution.
SALMAN KHALID Representing Islam
Salman Khalid is an engineer by profession and works for the oil & gas sector in Calgary. He has a keen interest in religion and its correlation with the realities of modern day science. He
has spoken at various religious conferences on diverse topics. In the past 8 years since he moved to Calgary, he has been actively involved in community and social work and has volunteered
his services for many community based projects. At present he holds the honorary position of regional president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for Prairie region.
